Preparing your home for the colder months includes scheduling regular maintenance checks and planning a boiler replacement during warmer seasons. However, sometimes this can be overlooked, and boiler replacements become a priority. At Ignite Gas Yorkshire, we strive to work efficiently to minimize disruptions to your daily life during a boiler replacement.

What are the typical signs that it's time for a boiler replacement?

Your boiler may need to be replaced if you experience any of the following problems:

How Long Does Boiler Replacement and Installation Take?

The time it takes to replace and install a new boiler depends on several factors, but the process generally takes up to four days. Some common factors include:

Replacing with a similar boiler model in the same location: If you're swapping your old boiler with a similar model and keeping it in the same location, the process usually takes 1-2 days, barring any complications during removal or installation.

Relocating the boiler to a different location: If you decide to move your boiler to a new location, additional time will be needed for the engineer to modify the system, such as adjusting pipework. This can add an extra day to the process, depending on the new location and the amount of work required.

Upgrading to a new boiler system: Upgrading to an entirely new system varies in time, depending on the type of system you're upgrading to and from. For example, transitioning from a conventional boiler to a combi boiler requires removing the hot water tank and adjusting pipework, which can be relatively quick and easy. However, changing from a combi boiler to a conventional boiler necessitates water tank installation and can take between 2-4 days, potentially longer if complications arise.

Additional Considerations for Boiler Replacement

When planning a boiler replacement, there are a few extra factors to consider:

Power flushing: Our engineers recommend a power flush, especially for older systems. This process cleanses the central heating system, removing sludge, rust, and debris for improved efficiency.

Upgrading gas mains: Older systems may have outdated pipework, unsuitable for new boiler installations. While not always necessary, Gas Safe regulations may require pipework upgrades to meet current standards. This process can add several hours or days to the boiler replacement timeframe, so consult with an engineer beforehand.
